The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation has awarded the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries, Inc. (PACSCL) a grant of $10,000 to support professional development opportunities offered by the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA).
CCAHA will offer four different programs, three of which will be repeated in locations on either side of the Schuylkill River to encourage as much participation as possible.
These programs address issues in collection management and exhibition, including mold remediation, identifying preservation issues during accessioning, housing solutions, and construction of book cradles.
Beth Lander, the Managing Director of PACSCL, noted the importance of this funding in sustaining professional development during this time of financial uncertainty: “PACSCL member institutions are not awash in funding due to recent cutbacks in federal funding. Ensuring that staff in special collections are educated to meet any moment is a key part of PACSCL’s mission. We are indebted to the Delmas Foundation for supporting this key benefit of PACSCL membership.”
Greg Stuart, Education Program Manager at CCAHA, happily partnered with PACSCL in this grant funded project. Stuart expressed excitement in the creation of these opportunities that extend awareness of CCAHA programs and services to potentially new audiences.
Lander acknowledged the member institutions who stepped up to host the workshops, including the Philadelphia City Archives, Swarthmore College, Laurel Hill West Cemetery, and Haverford College.
