Internship Program

PACSCL Undergraduate Internship Program 

PACSCL’s paid internship program provides undergraduate students exposure to and substantive experience working in special collections libraries, with the goal of bringing diversity, broadly defined, to the profession. We encourage participants who, whether due to issues of access or opportunity, or the circumstances of their academic or personal backgrounds, would benefit from this program.

Host Institutions

Each year, the DEI Committee/Internship Working Group formally invites PACSCL institutions, via the PACSCL listserv, to submit an application to serve as hosts for interns. Applications are reviewed by members of the DEI Committee/Working Group. PACSCL prioritizes selecting institutions that are committed to providing an instructional and supportive environment for undergraduate students who are new to the field. Institutions that can fund their own interns are also encouraged to apply.

Hosts are responsible for hiring and developing projects for interns, though the DEI Committee will assist with promoting postings. The DEI Committee will also work with institutions to ensure the goals of the internship are being met. 

Funding

PACSCL will cover the costs of one intern’s salary and fringe benefits/travel costs for one host institution, totaling $2000. Hosts are responsible for disbursing the funds to the student and all logistics related to payroll. Institutions that participate can also supply their own funding. 

Mentorship

The DEI Committee will be responsible for recruiting and matching a mentor for the student and facilitating an introductory meeting between mentors and students.
